Palmers Cool Special was the world championship campdraft title holder in 2012 and is one of the best bred and drafting mares in Australia.
Police say the mare was stolen from a paddock on the property Palmerston on Warrah Ridge Rd, Quirindi, between 6pm on Friday May 24 and 8am the next day.
Rural Crime Detective Senior Constable Scott Kellahan told The Northern Daily Leader the horse was walked out of the paddock.
“Detectives are investigating the incident, but someone knows something about what happened,” he said.
“If anyone saw any suspicious horse floats or trucks around the area on Friday, May 24 or Saturday, May 25, please let us know.”
Police canvassed the area shortly after but now they need the public’s help.
“We believe the horse is still in the area and the owners are appealing for a safe return of their horse,” he said.
Owner Mark Palmer has used equine websites as well as Facebook to plead for information on the whereabouts of his missing horse, commonly called Special.
“Special was taken from our front paddock ... she had a white cotton rug on at the time,” Mr Palmer posted. “We are beside ourselves.”
He’s appealed for anyone who might have seen anything suspicious around Quirindi, Willow Tree or the Warrah Ridge areas that day to make contact.
Palmers Cool Special is described as a bay mare with a capital H P over bar bracket on her near side shoulder and a 7 over 1 on her off side shoulder.
Detective Senior Constable Kellahan said she also has a distinctive white stripe on her forehead.
“The horse was taken sometime during the night, or early in the morning and someone must have seen something,” he said.
“We’re appealing for any of the neighbours or anyone in the area who might have seen something unusal or out of the oridinary to contact rural crime detectives at Tamworth Police Station.”
