Mr Blundell said after 28 years of music he thoroughly meant all the issues he’d been writing about and he wanted to raise the profile of regional Australia.
Three years ago Mr Katter asked him to run for a state seat, but Mr Blundell said he was in the middle of bankruptcy at the time.
Standing for a federal Senate seat came about after a four-week argument between the two with Mr Blundell saying he didn’t want to, but finally Mr Katter won.
Mr Blundell said he was passionate about the colour and identity of regional Australia, which was the primary reason he would run.
“I want people from town to understand it’s not a backwater and the country has got to the stage where the wheels are falling off,” he said.
Mr Blundell said he admired Mr Katter’s political longevity and the way he served his constituents.
“He’s a very, very smart human being and an incredible politician,” he said.
Mr Blundell will also ride in the celebrity cutting event at the NCHA Futurity in Tamworth on Friday night.
