Tamworth Regional Council cultural and community services manager Bruce Mercer described the proposed youth centre as a “one-stop shop” for young people.
The Youthie, which operates from the PCYC building, will relocate to the new centre.
“A number of government and non-government agencies providing education, health and recreational opportunities for local youth will co-locate at the new centre which will be operated and managed by Tamworth Regional Council’s youth services division,” Mr Mercer said.
The building will include a drop-in space, room for cultural and educational activities, and spaces for youth workers and organisations to help young people.
A development application for the new centre should be lodged next month and construction is expected to be completed by August next year.
The design has been formed from five years of planning, research and consultation with youth, Coledale residents, state government agencies and non-government organisations.
The centre is part of the NOW Initiative, a community renewal project for Coledale.
Artists’ impressions, images, plans and elevations are on display at all council offices, The Youthie, libraries, the Coledale Community Centre, and online at www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au until June 3.
A community information day will be held on Wednesday at Coledale Community Centre from 1pm to 3pm.
Written comment on the designs can be can be made to the council until 3pm on June 3 by emailing trc@tamworth.nsw.gov.au or writing to The General Manager, Tamworth Regional Council, PO Box 555, Tamworth, 2340.
