Mrs Medlock, who has run the rescue operation and refuge for the past six years, has only five dogs and 11 cats left to rehouse before she shuts up shop.
“I desperately need a good home for two little kittens – and I’d like them to go together if possible; they’re lovely little siblings,” Mrs Medlock said yesterday.
“They were abandoned by their mother at four weeks, so they’re become very attached to each other.”
Mrs Medlock was nominated for a Woman of the Year award in 2010 and, except for a few donations here and there and a Secret Millionaire legacy of $25,000 from a rich benefactor in 2009, she has mostly run the refuge with her own funds.
She is a part-time telephonist and former animal shelter operator who just stumbled into a refuge operation from her property on Porcupine Lane, Kootingal.
She started to rehome abandoned animals and it snowballed to where it has been for the past few years – caring for up to 40 animals at once and almost a fulltime job trying to matchmake humans with homeless dogs and cats.
Right now, she has five crossbred dogs, mostly scruffy, cute things that would make good companions. Among the cats are some caramel, ginger and black fluffy ones – and some great farm mousers.
Good pet owners who want to adopt some of the Medlock tenants can call Jean on 6760 3650.
Then she can move on with a clean conscience and a cleared- out animal refuge, and onto her new life at Woolomin.
