The Tamworth Minor League held a “mega-registration day” on Saturday morning and 10 NRL stars from the Knights and Sharks were there to sign autographs.
Meanwhile, local clubs were more interested in the signatures of players and parents and succeeded in picking up plenty of new recruits.
New TDMRL president Greg Sharman said he was pleased with the turnout, despite the rain, while ARL development officer Zac Russ reported that all clubs had signed up new players.
Any player who didn’t sign up on Saturday has another chance this Sunday and this time the special guests will be champion players of the past.
Brad Fittler’s Hogs for the Homeless tour, a charity motorbike ride in aid of homeless youth, passes through Tamworth on the weekend and he and his fellow former greats will stop in to help with another registration day.
Among those expected to make the trip are Nathan Hindmarsh, Ian Schubert and Tamworth product Alan Tongue.
The ride takes the ex-players all around NSW and back to Sydney in time for the opening game of the NRL
season.
In the local stretch of the trip, the riders will stop at Denman’s Royal Hotel on Sunday morning at 9am before moving on to Scone for a clinic from 10.30am.
The tour then heads to Tamworth in time for a junior clinic and sign-on at the Plain St fields from 4pm.
