A SPUR-of-the-moment decision saw West Australians Cynthia and Mike Ede spend Christmas in Tamworth and they’re staying for the festival.
They admit to not being hardcore country fans, but said they were interested in seeing the country music festival.
The couple is originally from Geraldton, but they now live on the road.
“We didn’t intend to come for the festival, but we headed to Broken Hill then Lightning Ridge and kept coming east,” Mr Ede said.
“The closer we got, we thought we’d do it, so we’re here this time.”
Mr Ede said they were told it would be difficult to get caravan park accommodation, so they arrived at Paradise Tourist Park on December 3, just as a vicious hail storm struck.
“After the festival we might have to go to Melbourne to get hail damage repaired because we had hail in Inverell, Glen Innes and then when we arrived in Tamworth,” he said.
During the festival, the couple has booked tickets to see The McClymonts and the last night of the rodeo.
“We’re going to take each day as it comes,” Mr Ede said.
“We’re going to open the program every day and decide what we’re doing that day.”
