With a diverse background in education, Dr Ling has built her career in girls' schools, most recently as deputy principal and head of senior school at Somerville House in Brisbane and previously as a teacher and administrator at Lourdes Hill College, Brisbane Girls Grammar School and MLC in Melbourne.
Earlier in her career she taught in public schools in Melbourne's inner-city suburbs and has also spent time working in the Catholic education system.
Dr Ling first visited NEGS as a guest of former principal Anna Abbott several years ago and was immediately impressed by the school's magnificent grounds, facilities and strong academic traditions.
The new principal is keen to continue that tradition, while at the same time preparing NEGS students for the challenges that await them beyond their school years.
With a strong commitment to a Christian education that is outward looking and globally aware, as well as being community conscious, Dr Ling is excited by the potential inherent at NEGS.
"I believe that education is the most significant work we can undertake in our society," she said.
"Through this we actually contribute to the kind of world we wish to have in the future, both for ourselves and for our children.
"NEGS has 120 acres, it's peaceful and safe, yet it houses a student community that really is learning what it takes to be a citizen of the 21st century."
As a consequence, Dr Ling – who lives on campus at NEGS with her husband, retired electrical engineer and writer, Chek – is keen to continue and enhance the school's technological commitment.
Dr Ling's commissioning was held in the NEGS Chapel on Tuesday.
