Hunter Valley Blue was routed for 63 with Tamworth medium pacer Jos Harte starring. He captured 5-10 from his five overs.
Matt Jenner (1-15), Tom Wilson (2-15), Alex Kurtz (1-14) and Simon Norvill (1-3) also had success.
Tamworth then knocked off the required runs in 16 overs with Mitch Power (22no), Michael Kidd (21) and Simon Norvill (16no) rushing to 1-71.
Tamworth coach Ralph Lawrence said the winning finish was a nice way to end a carnival which started so well but then ran into the dreaded double header.
Tamworth won its first two games with success against North West on day one and then a win in the morning 30 over-a-
side match against Lismore.
Halfway through the afternoon 30 over-a-side match against Inverell, the side literally ran out gas, Lawrence said.
“The double header was just too tough,” he said.
“We wouldn’t have beaten Ballina though (Saturday) but then we finished well today. Three wins and two losses wasn’t too bad.”
Inverell finished its carnival with a 34-run win over Armidale at Lambert Park.
Armidale had Inverell in early trouble at 6-68 but Guy Pilcher (36) and Matt Michael (46no) combined in a 74-run seventh wicket stand to help the side to 174.
It then bowled out Armidale for 140 with Michael (2-14) and Pilcher (2-30) completing fine doubles. Alex McCosker also claimed 2-20. Dean Moore topscored with 24 not out while Lachlan Paull (15), Ryan Young (16), Joe Ninnes (21) and Dave Brown (14) all got starts in the top order.
Inverell coach Mark Butler was more than happy with his side and the carnival.
“It’s a brilliant carnival, well organised by Ian Brown and his wife Kate.
“We’ve done well, come from the smallest population centre of 10,000 to compete against the bigger populations such as the Hunter Valley and Mid North Coast. It’s been a great experience for the team and rolling Tamworth the other day to give them a hammering was a highlight. It’s also good for Mitchell (Foster) and Peter (Ehsman). Giving them a warm-up for the Bradman Cup down there in Tamworth.”
Mid North Coast beat Lismore by 47 runs in their third place playoff match at Harris Park.
Daine Williams (44) Marc Peacock (21) and Ben Alliston (23) topscored in their side’s total of 142. Scott Bullman claimed 3-22 before his side collapsed to 95 all out. Andrew Rooney (20), Brendan Alcorn (19) and Matt Grimson (19) topscored for Lismore.
Daine Williams completed a good game by capturing 2-21 from his 10 overs while David Gorter (3-14), Ben Taylor (2-13), Ross Field (1-22) and David Bolster (1-19) also had success.
