A court spokesperson said yesterday the trial of Danny Raymond George Matheson, formerly of Donald St, began on Tuesday and was expected to last three weeks due to the number of witnesses scheduled to take the stand.
The jury was empanelled on Tuesday and after two days of hearing was adjourned to resume on Monday next week.
In October last year Matheson pleaded not guilty to murdering the mother of his three children Janene Greenaway, 27, who died on October 2, 1999 from a single gunshot wound to the head.
That evening Greenaway was found lying in the driveway of a Coromandel St home and died a short time later at Tamworth Base Hospital.
