Malcolm John Naden, 31, is wanted for questioning after his 24-year-old cousin Kristy Scholes was found strangled on the floor of his room on June 23.
He is also believed to have information about the disappearance of another cousin, 24-year-old Lateesha Nolan, whom police believe has fallen prey to foul play.
Detective Sergeant Bryne Ruse, who heads the investigation to find Naden, said he could no longer be specific about where public reports about the fugitive originated, but The Leader's coverage of the event prompted a number of calls from people who believed they had spotted him in the New England area.
Detective Sergeant Ruse said police had received more than 100 tip-offs since the $50,000 reward was advertised for information leading to his capture, but now believe 50 per cent of those were of no use.
Naden is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, 177cm tall, about 85kg, of medium build, with an olive complexion, brown eyes, shaved head, and possibly a moustache and beard.
Anyone willing to report sightings or the exact whereabouts of Naden should call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
