Cr Murray said he was unaware the Liverpool Plains Shire Council had flagged the issue of establishing a rail service our way, but he did support it.
“Tamworth Regional Council’s strategy is based more on the idea of improving rail services to a point where they are more sensitive to the needs of passengers,” he said.
“To that effect it would mean ensuring the existing rail services were run at a time that enabled people to attend business and professional appointments in a way that aligned them with normal business hours.”
Cr Murray said among the issues put forward in TRC’s submission to the NSW government’s public transport inquiry focused on a number of other issues.
“Improving rail links was something we identified but our submission focused more on the need for improvement to out bridges and roads systems,” he said.
In its submission to the inquiry, Liverpool Plains suggested CityRail Services be extended to include a Tamworth- Newcastle daily return service, running through towns including Quirindi, Werris Creek and Willow Tree.
