Japan's Ministry of Defense have developed a spherical flying robot.

With three gyroscopes inside for stability, the orb can land and roll, as well as bump into objects and stay in flight.

The flying orb is uncannily similar to that used to train Luke Skywalker in A New Hope, though I'm assuming the Department of Defense hasn't installed lasers... yet.
