The major targeted operation - codenamed Strike Force Western Mongoose - has put five people before the courts and laid 37 charges in the past week alone, after launching earlier this month.

"The operation has been extremely successful," Oxley police Detective Acting Inspector Matt Harmer said.

"Having a dedicated strike force put together with the numbers that we do have currently, hopefully we will see a reduction in these offences and the community will be safe."

The crackdown comes as concerns are raised among cops about how brazen offenders have been becoming, leaving residents rattled.

"Police definitely have concerns in relation to the seriousness and risks taken ... we have seen weapons involved," Detective Acting Inspector Harmer said.

"Police are aware of a number of groups from the Hunter through to Moree who are actively engaging in crime and trying to engage police in pursuits and other risky behaviours."

Accounts have surfaced on social media platforms which appear to document some interactions with police as well as what appears to be people driving cars and searching homes.

Investigators are working around the clock to collect information.

"Police are seizing exhibits and are actively using all strategies available to them to identify the offenders," Detective Acting Inspector Harmer said.

"If people are filming these things and putting it out there for everyone to see, police will identify you and will take action.

"Sooner or later, someone is going to get hurt."

Officers have urged the community to support their efforts to keep everyone safe by calling in with reports as soon as something feels off.

"We are seeing the majority of these offences being committed in the early hours of the morning and the night," Detective Acting Inspector Harmer said.

"Staff are being rostered to respond to these calls from the public and we encourage the public to report these matters.

"Anytime the public have concerns about people in the area or they might hear a noise, we ask them to contact police straight away."

Police said the region is committed to keeping the strike force in action as long as needed, with Oxley police Detective Inspector Jason Darcy at the helm.

Officers are working with the Hunter Valley and New England commands.

Police investigating car thefts and break-ins in the Oxley and Hunter Valley districts homed in on a teenage boy, and the squad arrested him at a Tamworth home on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old had 31 property-related charges levelled against him and was granted strict bail in Tamworth Children's Court.

The following morning, the dog squad arrested a 37-year-old man.

Detective Acting Inspector Harmer said he expected more arrests to come.

The Youth Command is playing a key role, engaging with teenagers and young people.

Strike Force Western Mongoose is made up of more than a dozen officers from highway patrol, proactive police, the region's reinforcement team, the dog squad and detectives.
