AS THE COVID-19 outbreak in Newcastle explodes, Tamworth residents lined up for more than an hour to be tested this morning.
Hunter New England Health has confirmed two new cases of the virus in Tamworth, two in Moree and one in Armidale in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

It comes as a total of 110 cases of the variant of concern, Omicron, were confirmed across the state.
In the local health district, there are 827 active cases, with seven people being cared for in hospital and a further three in intensive care.

At least 243 cases are from the Newcastle local government area, after a positive case attended a local nightclub, The Argyle House, on Wednesday night.
NSW Health has stated it is concerned about the escalating transmission in the Newcastle area, with venues linked to cases who are likely to have been infected with the Omicron variant.
"It is likely that the overwhelming majority of the cases in Newcastle will be the Omicron variant of concern," it said.

There were 104,501 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day's total of 86,562.
Anyone who is directed to get tested for COVID-19 or self isolate must follow the rules.
Public health officials urge anyone who has even the mildest of symptoms to get tested immediately and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.
