Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the support group was an example of the community working together to provide compassionate and considered care for those who suffer from the most serious of degenerative diseases.

"For 30 years, the Tamworth Parkinson's Support Group have provided care and support for those most in need, driven by passionate community members who have given up endless hours of their time," Mr Anderson said.

"Today was about thanking those who care for people with Parkinson's.

"Family members, relatives, friends and specialists are all crucial in caring for those with Parkinson's and I can't thank them enough for the sacrifices they make.

"The group's current leader, Kevin Robinson's mantra is 'sharing the load' - a mantra that recognises that the group is stronger and more united when they work together.

"It is a group that has worked tirelessly for three decades under the leadership of many community stalwarts.

"Advocates like Len Hutton, Brian Sullivan, Trish Betts, Denise Sullivan, Pat Johnson and Daisy Ivin have all served to lead the group through the years.

Through the years, the group has been responsible for organising exercise programs to be developed for people with Parkinson's and running sessions to educate the community on the disease.

"This year, the strength of Kevin's leadership and the many who came before him has culminated in the group successfully lobbying for the delivery of a Movement Disorder Nurse Specialist based in Tamworth who specialises in keeping those with Parkinson's mobile," Mr Anderson said.

"I want to thank Kevin and the group for inviting me along to their luncheon on Monday. They truly deserve the commendation of our community and I look forward to supporting them in any way that I can in the future."
