The meeting - increased from seven to nine races due to a glut of nominations - was gifted to Scone this week after Racing NSW stewards deemed the track unsafe following heavy rain.

"It's the biggest meeting of the year, so I'm very disappointed," Tongue said, adding that up to 2,000 people had been expected at the course on Saturday.

"It was looking to be a very successful meeting," she said. "I had a lot of people pre-booked and pre-paid.

"A lot of marquees" had been booked, Tongue continued, while "we'd sold a lot of tickets to our luncheon" and entertainment was booked for throughout the day.

"A lot of preparation" had gone into staging the meeting including organising extra bars, she said.

"There's a lot of businesses in Gunnedah that use that meeting as their work Christmas party," she added.

The "unheard of 280-odd" nominations the GJC had received for the meeting was "the most nominations we've received for a very long time".

She added: "Our seven races are now nine races. And it would have been lovely to have those nine races at Gunnedah on Saturday."
