Kate, who grew up on her parent's farm at Werris Creek, now lives near Quirindi.

She has worked as a draftsperson, but with the arrival of family she turned her hand to more time-friendly tasks, like cartooning and painting murals.

One of these is the illustration of two cows bathing under a centre-pivot irrigator and titled "an irrigated crop invaded by stock" on the wall facing the station.

The next stage of her mural which runs parallel to Station St, will include images of sunflowers and corn grown on many properties on the Liverpool Plains.

These two crops are some of the culinary favourites of white cockatoos and leads to the mural be called the "Cocky getting cranky with the cockies in his crops", she said.

Fixing the building's surfaces has been a large part of the preparation for the murals.

The brick surfaces had to be scrubbed down, then an undercoat followed by coats of blue, brown and orange before the greens and yellows of the sunflowers and corn.

The roller-doors in the building will all be painted dark blue, contrasting with the colourful crops, cockatoos and other details.

Kate's murals are about adding some humour to the picture and she is sure locals will manage a wry smile when the see images of the feasting on the crops by those bush larrikins, the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos.

Kate is also planning a mural in her old hometown of Werris Creek in the future.

The Liverpool Plains Shire Council's General Manager Jo Sangster welcomed the colourful addition to Quirindi, and said these street scenes would attract visitors to the area to soak up the sights.

"Tell your family and your friends to visit the Liverpool Plains and see what we have to show off," she said.
