FULL TAB MEETING
Tamworth Jockey Club
1st Race @ 1.15pm
*Track likely Soft 7 with further rain forecast & Rail out +2m from 800m to 300m & True the Remainder:
*ALL races carry a BOBS Silver Bonus up to $9625.00 + Race 1 has a BOBS Extra Bonus up to $5,625.00
*RACE 1 @ 1.15pm CARLTON DRY - carltondry.com.au - CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100m) - Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:
We begin over the staying journey on a likely Soft 7 reading, although steady improvement could easily give way to downgrades if the rain returns. Ultra consistent and talented mare 4. FUSAICHI FAMILY (Brett Cavanough/Ms Madeline Owen a2kg; 55kg) was good late from the back in a deeper race at Scone, and steps up to this longer trip at an ideal time. Had previously swept home to beat a similar class field, and with one of the more promising younger lady riders in the saddle, she's the one to beat.
*MAIN DANGERS: Improving Moree three-year-old 2. Fiocchi is clear on the next line from a handy draw deep into the prep, and bred to handle wet tracks; while five-year-old mare 3. Forever Spotted can bounce back after dropping out a long way in the Diggers' Cup at Inverell.
Likely Tempo: Fair
My Betting Attack: FUSAICHI FAMILY to WIN & Quinella: 2 and 4
*RACE 2 @ 1.50pm BUY YOUR QUAST CHRISTMAS TURKEY - quastturkeys.com.au (02) 6760 9272 - OPEN HCP (1600m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
Solid open class field doing battle over the mile, with a few strong chances. Very keen on home track four-year-old 3. BECKFORD (Troy O'Neile/Ms Mikayla Weir; 57.5kg) third-up and coming back from an even effort second-up in stronger BM 72 metropolitan class. Still on the rise, and treated well at the weights, and has won twice on heavy ground from only three starts. The clear testing material!
*MAIN DANGERS: Typically, plenty of them, headed by honest local five-year-old 9. Ziggi Rocks who was a bit disappointing working home late in a similar race at Quirindi, but he's consistent enough and only missed a place once in five starts here. Provincial seven-year-old 8. Surjin is banging on the door, and gets good weight relief after charging home in that same race, although not convinced he'll find the right spot from the inside draw around here. Tough six-year-old 10. Hardyo flashed home to win the Quirindi battle, although a little more depth here and will likely be forced further back from the outside draw. Both 2. Mister Smartee and 4. Mo's Glory are capable of finishing into a place.
Likely Tempo: Solid
My Betting Attack: BECKFORD to WIN & Trifecta: 3,8,9/3,8,9,10/3,8,9,10
*RACE 3 @ 2.25pm SKY RACING WORLD CLASS 2 HCP - HEAT OF THE RISING STAR (1000m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
A Heat of the Rising Star over the short course also serves up several well-credentialled contenders. Promising Scone four-year-old 2. THE WAYFARER (Rod Northam/Reece Jones a0kg; 60kg) resumes, and will come to hand quickly. Hasn't raced on anything near a 7/8 rating, but the way he got through the line in a recent open trial on a Soft 6 suggests there'll be no cause for concern.
*MAIN DANGERS: Lightly raced home track five-year-old 1. Anethole resumes here behind two trials, and the hefty weight is off-set by a 4k allowance, although a query if the track gets into heavy range. Keep safe four-year-old 7. Foxstorm returning off a six week freshen-up and down in weight; while another local on the rise, 5. C'mon And Love Me resumed with a narrow win against weaker class; and 10. Zakor gets good weight relief with blinkers added.
Likely Tempo: Solid to Good
My Betting Attack: THE WAYFARER Each Way & Box Trifecta 1,2,5,7
*RACE 4 @ 3.05pm CANNON COHEN + ASSOCIATES - tamworthaccountants.com.au admin@cannoncohen.com.au (02) 6766 2515 - COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) - Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:
Over 200m further now for the maiden boys, and it doesn't get any easier. Home track three-year-old 12. ROUSSOS (Craig Martin/Andrew Gibbons; 57.5kg) shapes as the one to beat second-up in a wide race, and advantaged under the set weight conditions. Was huge odds resuming off a long break when beaten under a length in a handy enough maiden, and while he'll need some luck from a middle gate in a sizeable field, most of these are going around for practice.
*MAIN DANGERS: Lightly raced Sepoy four-year-old 2. Fanz stuck on well second-up, and drew to get plenty of cover; while keeping a big watch on provincial three-year-old 14. Sneaky Truths coming off a fair first-up run in potentially a much stronger maiden; and Not A Single Doubt three-year-old 13. Sandras who debuts in winkers off two progressive trials.
Likely Tempo: Solid
My Betting Attack: ROUSSOS Each Way & Box Trifecta 2,12,13,14
*RACE 5 @ 3.40pm SAMPSON'S CAR REPAIRS - sampsonscarrepairs.com.au admin@sampsonscarrepairs.com.au (02) 6766 2988 - FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) - Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:
Very keen to back progressive & local four-year-old mare 2. INVINCIBLE FIRE (Cody Morgan/Aaron Bullock; 58kg) fourth-up after finishing like a train in that Quirindi maiden when forced to make a long and sustained run early after jumping from a wide barrier. She can settle closer here from a softer draw, and with a leading jockey sticking strong, she only needs a clear crack at them from the 350m to win.
*MAIN DANGERS: Provincial three-year-old 13. Rockbarton Ruby makes her debut behind two recent trials, and the betting will be a key indicator. Improving four-year-old 4. Kenderesi has to overcome a tough gate, but she's shown more than enough in three runs to be competitive here.
Likely Tempo: Solid to Good
My Betting Attack: INVINCIBLE FIRE to WIN
*RACE 6 @ 4.15pm TJC CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON - tamworthjockeyclub.com.au - DECEMBER 20 MAIDEN HCP (1400m) - Min Weight 56.5kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
Still in maiden class for another very tough and open challenge. Improving provincial mare 3. AMERICAN ANTHEM (Nathan Doyle/Ashley Morgan; 56.5kg) is primed to break through third-up from a fair draw after finishing okay in a deeper race at Port.
*MAIN DANGERS: Tough local mare 4. Angel's Landing should have nearly cracked her maiden at Inverell when working home wider out on a tricky surface, and she backs up in 10 days with a far more senior and experienced jockey taking over. Another improver, three-year-old filly 9. Lucky Crumpet defied her big odds last start to savage the line late, and drew better here for a race with more depth; while three-year-old 11. Pippen drops back in grade and distance via a trial; but has to overcome a tough draw; and understated provincial mare 13. Single Babe is a clear improver.
Likely Tempo: Good
My Betting Attack: AMERICAN ANTHEM to WIn & Box Exacta 3,4,9
*RACE 7 @ 4.50pm COURTHOUSE HOTEL TAMWORTH - courthousetamworth.com.au 232 Peel St, Tamworth; (02) 6766 1517 - BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1400m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
A high quality contest here for this grade, and naturally comes with plenty of chances. Under-rated Moree four-year-old 3. PYRMONT (Peter Sinclair/Ms Brooke Stower; 61kg) is a good wet tracker and reliable weight carrier, and with so much more to offer than his modest record suggests. Made up a tonne of ground last start in a handy CL2 under a similar weight, and is yearning for the extra 200m.
*MAIN DANGERS: Capable four-year-old 7. Wiki held on strongly to land his maiden fourth-up, and is bred to relish wet tracks. Big market watch on tough provincial five-year-old 5. The Borough who resumes off two progressive trials, draws the inside, and will be fit enough to run this out fresh. Topweight four-year-old 1. Andorra La Vella; dominant last start winner 8. Honeywine; and six-year-old mare 11. Santa Margherita fourth-up and scratched from Taree on Monday to run here; should all be included in exotic plays.
Likely Tempo: Reasonable to Solid
My Betting Attack: PYRMONT Each Way
*RACE 8 @ 5.30pm CLEARVIEW IT CONSULTING - clearviewit.com.au admin@clearviewit.com.au (02) 6762 3275 - BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1200m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
Still under-rated local five-year-old 3. DANZA IN THE DARK (Stephen Meyer/Aaron Bullock; 61kg) resumes for only his 13th start. Hasn't publicly trialled, but has performed smartly on the fresh side, and the booking of the "Raging Bull" to ride is a huge plus.
*MAIN DANGERS: Progressive home track filly 5. Satin Ruby drops down in class from a strong closing Highway run 17 days ago, but is drawn wide. Another girl on the rise, 12. Majority charged home first-up, and drew to get a nice trail; while 9. Mook's Sister who has found the line well in her last two; and 6. Eighth Immortal who can reel off a big closing sectional; are both knockout chances.
Likely Tempo: Solid to Good
My Betting Attack: DANZA IN THE DARK Each Way and Box Exacta: 3,5,12
