A 32-year-old man remains behind bars after he was arrested by Oxley officers about 2am near the Coles service station on Goonoo Goonoo Road.

Oxley Detective Inspector Jason Darcy told the Leader it was a significant arrest in the "battle" against alleged property crime in Tamworth.

Detective Inspector Darcy said the accused was spotted in the Hillvue area before patrolling officers located him a short time later.

The man is accused of resisting police before he was taken back to Tamworth Police Station and had four allegations levelled against him. No injuries were reported.

The man has been charged with resisting police in the execution of duty, being armed with the intent to commit an offence, possession of housebreaking implements, and custody of a knife in a public place.

He was refused police bail before fronting Tamworth Local Court on Monday.

Court documents show magistrate Julie Soars refused the accused bail and adjourned the matter for a week.

Detective Inspector Darcy said a second man had been identified by police as part of their investigations, but inquiries were continuing.

Meanwhile, he urged the community to continue locking up their cars, homes, garages and windows to help protect against property crime in Tamworth.

He told the Leader police have noticed recent break-ins have been "opportunistic" and offenders have been trying unlocked doors and windows.

He said CCTV cameras have also been a big help.

"These strategies by homeowners reduce the amount of offences occurring," he said.

He reminded the community to make reports to police directly and immediately rather than post on social media.
