A HOME has been ransacked while residents were asleep inside, before offenders who are yet to be identified stole a car and led police on a chase through Tamworth.

Police claim that between 10pm on Wednesday and 2:15am, unknown people broke into a home on Brisbane Street in East Tamworth.
The house was ransacked while the occupants slept, before cash and a black Holden Calais were stolen, police allege.
Oxley Police District officers were notified and launched an investigation.
Almost an hour later, near 3am, police attempted to stop a Holden Calais in Tamworth, before a chase started when the car failed to pull over.

The pursuit was stopped a short time later.
Police said they then found the car abandoned in a vacant paddock on Green Street in West Tamworth and it was seized for forensic examination.
