After Harvest Hotels put the popular restaurant up for sale last year, Mr Segboer jumped at the opportunity to expand his interest in Tamworth's dining scene.

As owner and operator of the Central Hospitality Group, which includes Tamworth's CH Boutique Hotel, Hopscotch Restaurant, Deco Restaurant and the Pavillion Function Centre, Mr Segboer said his latest buy would be the perfect addition to the family.

"It's about adding assets to our collection that can complement each other," he said.

But diversifying his own portfolio isn't the only thing Mr Segboer hoped would come with the new purchase.

Also high on the agenda is fostering employment opportunities and development for local hospitality workers.

"We're always looking at retaining staff and how we build our staffs' career path and keeping them in Tamworth," he said.

From family friendly to more corporate and fine dining, each of Mr Segboers venues offers a different level of dining experience, which he said would give staff the opportunity to grow within the business and constantly improve their skills.

Occupying the iconic heritage-listed old bank building in the heart of Peel Street, The Pig as it is affectionately known, falls in the middle of the casual to corporate dining spectrum, offering the gastronomic experience of laid back tapas and an urban bar oasis.

There are no plans for any major changes, but an indoor facelift and an updated menu were being considered.

"Initially we're just going to come in, see how the business operates and get to know the team and the customers and hear from them where they think we can improve," he said.

But one change Mr Segboer was excited to welcome was the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, which would see more diners back enjoying their favourite meals.

"We really want to see all of our community come back out and engage with hospitality venues," he said.

Mr Segboer said he hoped to work with other businesses and key stakeholders in the Fitzroy Plaza and Peel Street precinct to revitalise and enhance the evening dining experience.

This vision comes as Tamworth Regional Council announced a series of micro-events to be held in Fitzroy Plaza in the lead up to Christmas, which will include live music, food trucks and movie nights.

The Central Hospitality Group will officially take over The Pig & Tinder Box next week.
