The move will need to be endorsed at this week's council meeting, and if it is, many new faces with fresh ideas will be shaping the way the city handles disability issues.
One of those hoping to make a difference is 16-year-old Oxley High School student Isla Farr, who lives with cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair.
She has experience trying to make changes in the region as part of the Tamworth Youth Council, and is looking to improve the town even further in what could be her new role.
"I figure a lot of the people applying are going to be older, or they they don't really have the same experience I do living with a disability and being a young person," she said.
There are already a number of changes she would like to help make around town.
"I would really like to see better accessibility for younger disabled people, being able to get them out into the community and do things they want to do," she said.
"I'd really like to see young disabled people engage better with the community and with their peers."

Chair of the working group, councillor Helen Tickle, said she hopes council endorses the move.
"The expanded committee will bring wide and various experience and expertise to provide strategic advice to council on access issues," she said.
"This is to ensure the Tamworth region offers an enhanced quality of life and prosperity for people of all ages experiencing disability."
In order to accommodate the amount of new faces looking to make a different, council will, as part of the recommendation, vote on whether to increase the amount of people who can sit on the committee.
The limit is currently seven, however if passed the group would be able to have ten.
