A number of junior cricketers started the Central North Cricket Zone season with a bang on Sunday.
Round one of the George Denton Shield (under 13s), the John Kilborn Shield (under 15s) and the Col Dent Shield (under 17s) all kicked off on the weekend.
With the bat across the age groups, two centuries and a stack of 50s were produced.
The two centuries came from Coalfields' Alex Stafa in the under 17s competition - who scored 151 not out - and Tamworth Blue's Blake Scicluna with 105 not out in the under 15s.
Scicluna's century came in a comprehensive victory against Inverell where Matthew Beattie and Ben Murphy also racked up half tons for Tamworth.
The weekend also produced two five-wicket hauls with Inverell's Cooper Collins (5-9) and Coalfields' Jack Knight (5-55) both in the wickets.
