At about 9pm, NSW Ambulance Aeromedical Control came up with a solution.
The 48-year-old was transported by road beyond the storms and the Newcastle helicopter was tasked to coordinate a rendezvous at Scone airport.
Following a handover he was airlifted in a serious condition to the John Hunter Hospital for further specialist medical treatment.
The Westpac spokesperson described the operation as "fantastic teamwork".
The helicopter was again called on Saturday morning after an Inverell man suffered a serious cardiac condition.
The service was called at about 4.50am and stabilised the 54-year-old man before airlifting him to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for specialist treatment.
