CASES are back in single digits for Tamworth as the region has recorded six new infections, a welcomed drop after eleven cases were recorded yesterday.

Of the six cases, five are from Tamworth and one is from West Tamworth.
Armidale recorded only one new infection, after two cases were reported there yesterday.

Public health physician Dr Durrheim said while most cases in Tamworth have been in large family groups at least one case a day has been unlinked and infectious in the community.
"We can't afford to take any risks, even the mildest of symptoms should prompt testing," he said.
With Tamworth Public School reporting a confirmed case in the school community on Wednesday night, Dr Durrheim said there was an alarming trend of infections in educational settings.
"This is a really important reminder to all parents, make sure, even if your child has the mildest of symptoms don't take them to school," he said.
"Rather go and get them tested and isolate until you get a negative result."
Across the Hunter New England district 54 cases were recorded. Thirty six of these were infectious while in the community while six are still under investigation. Seventeen of these cases are currently being cared for in hospital and four are in intensive care.
COVID-19 virus fragments have been detected in sewage treatment plants in Armidale, Moree, Quirindi, Uralla, Taree, Hawks Nest, Curlewis, Forster, Hallidays Point, Harrington and Wingham. Anyone who has even the mildest of symptoms is urged to get tested.
State wide numbers remain below 300 with 268 and cases and two deaths recorded. 93.4 per cent of NSW residents have received their first dose of the COVID vaccine and 86.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.
