Two cases in Tamworth and two cases in West Tamworth were recorded in the 24 hours leading up to 8pm on Saturday.
There were 53 people across the Hunter New England Health District who tested positive in that time.
Fourteen cases were in isolation for their entire infectious period, 34 were infectious in the community and five are still under investigation.
Forty-two cases are linked to known exposures or clusters, six are unlinked and the source of five cases is under investigation.
Fragments of the virus were detected in Armidale, Uralla, Moree and Quirindi, although there are no known cases in those communities. It is the second consecutive positive sewage result for the latter two.
Two positive local cases were reported in Saturday's updated, with one being from Tamworth and the other from West Tamworth.
Four people have died with COVID-19 across NSW as the state's number of fresh cases improved slightly.
NSW cases fell below the 300 mark again on Sunday, with 296 infections detected in 24 hours on the back of more than 66,000 tests.
The first dose vaccination figure for people over 16 has ticked over 93 per cent, with full inoculation at 84.4 per cent for that demographic.

Figures on 12-16 year olds, who were the focus of a walk-in jab blitz this weekend, are expected to be released with regional breakdowns and other detailed data around 11am.
There are 480 people in hospitals with the virus, and 119 requiring intensive care.
There were no new international arrivals diagnosed with the virus.
