Organisers of the inaugural Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange (CTLX) announced that $20,000 would be awarded to the nations best working dog, a prize that is bound to get any tail wagging.

The increased prize pool has already sparked interest among owners with 50 dogs set to go for auction. Three hundred nominations have already been received for the cattle, sheep, and yard dog trial competitions.

Regional Livestock Exchange regional manager Brock Syphers hoped the latest interest would dog-ear the event well into the future.

"It's our intention the Working Dog Challenge will become an annual event for CTLX, and producers can mark the date on their calendar as an opportunity to sell or secure excellent working dogs," he said.

With his eye on the big prize, Ben Coster from Wandabar Stockdogs said he was keen to show off his championship eight-year-old kelpie Coopendale Lucy.

To produce winners, Mr Coster follows a strict training regime which starts when the pups are just eight weeks old.

"Seeing the $20,000 prize pool has made this a very exciting event," he said.

"With that much money on offer, the cream will come to the top, and the best dogs and competitors will meet at CTLX."

Tom Card from Bowyer and Livermore predicted the auction would be a big attraction with the nations best dogs on offer.

"The Central Tablelands region is renowned for breeding quality and versatile dogs."

"It's a big selling point to producers to be able to secure a dog which can work cattle as well as sheep."

Mr Syphers said the event would include food, drinks and music with COVIDSafe preparations well underway to ensure everything would run smoothly.

"I foresee this being a great weekend for the community," he said.

The event will be held in Carcoar from November 26 until November 28.
