Jesse Leigh Green is charged with murdering Teah Rose Luckwell, 22, in her Tamworth unit in 2018.

Green is facing a judge-alone hearing in the Supreme Court of NSW, which started again in Tamworth on Monday after it opened in July and ran for two weeks.

Crown witness Joshua Moore told the court on Monday he had met with Ms Luckwell on a street corner sometime before she died because she wanted to change mobile phones.

Mr Moore said her phone was smashed but had "a couple of messages" on it.

"She was a bit freaked out from Jesse Green," Mr Moore told the court.

"I don't know what she meant by that, but she said she was a bit freaked out by him."

Mr Moore said he had known Ms Luckwell for a number of years and had tried to get her to stay with family after their conversation, but she didn't.

The court heard from several Crown witnesses on Monday, including a woman who said Green had thought Ms Luckwell was "hot" after she moved to the area.

The court previously heard Green was Ms Luckwell's former neighbour at the Robert Street unit complex.

Ms Luckwell was allegedly murdered in the early hours of March 28, 2018.

She was found dead in a pool of blood inside her front door several hours later.

Green is also facing charges of break and enter; and using an offensive weapon.

The hearing continues before Justice Stephen Campbell, who is sitting via video from Sydney due to COVID-19.
