Isiah Blair, 20, is behind bars and did not appear in Tamworth Local Court when his case was called last week.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Rob Baillie confirmed officers had made progress in the matter.

"The good news is that the brief [of evidence] is compliant," he told the court.

He asked magistrate Julie Soars to mention the case again in six weeks, when it is expected the state prosecuting authority, the DPP, will confirm the charge against the accused.

Blair made no bid for his release and bail was formally refused.

Ms Soars adjourned the case to October and ordered Blair to appear virtually.

Police allege Blair and an unknown woman smashed a window and kicked in a door to force their way into a home in Kirkham Crescent, Oxley Vale, in the early hours of July 7.

Blair is accused of using a watering can and a steel bar to assault two residents that were inside the home at the time, before grabbing a knife from the kitchen.

The police case is that Blair then stabbed a 45-year-old man in both of his calves.

Oxley officers were called to the home about 1am and arrested Blair, but said the woman had already fled the scene when police arrived.

The 45-year-old man who was knifed in both legs was taken to Tamworth hospital for treatment.

Police said at the time the man was expected to undergo surgery for the serious injuries.

The second resident allegedly assaulted at the Kirkham Crescent home was a 42-year-old woman, who according to police suffered a minor hand injury.

Blair is facing an aggravated break and enter and committing the serious indictable offence of wounding. He has not entered a plea.
