It is pleading with locals to get tested even if they have very mild symptoms, and a new drive through testing facility has been set up at Narrabri Hospital.
It commenced on Thursday, and will continue running into the weekend between 9am to 3:30pm.
The person who tested positive will transferred from Tamworth hospital via police escort to hotel quarantine in Newcastle, according to Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson.
Earlier:
A WORKER from Narrabri has tested positive to COVID-19, with the results being confirmed by secondary results on Thursday morning.
The person, who is believed to be part of the cotton industry, tested positive on Wednesday night and is being treated at Tamworth hospital.
It is the first time a person with COVID-19 has been admitted to the hospital since the beginning of the Deltra outbreak.
Member for Barwon Roy Butler understands the person underwent the second, rapid test on Wednesday evening.

Public health controller at Hunter New England Health Dr David Durrheim told ABC the person is listed as having a Queensland address but works in Narrabri, and recently visited Sydney for several days.
He said it was a "disturbing" outcome given the region's low testing number, with just ... 83 people getting tested from September 2 to 5 - which is among the lowest in the area.
Mr Butler had been holding onto hope the results of the second test would deliver better news, but is now joining calls for the community to get to the local testing clinics.
The case will not be included in the numbers at Thursday's 11am press conference, but will appear in Friday's figures.
