The 53-year-old accused did not appear in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday, when police prosecutor Sergeant Rob Baillie asked for a six-week adjournment.
"This is a serious matter as you can see in relation to the charges," he said.
"This is something that is well and truly required ... the expert certificate is still outstanding."
Defence solicitor Clint Coles told the court he accepted an adjournment would be needed "in the interest of justice", but asked it be as short as possible.

"There has been a service of the background medical documents that would by-and-large inform the medical experts," Mr Coles said.
Magistrate Julie Soars said Anderson's charges were "hanging over her head" and listed the case in three weeks to check on the brief of evidence.
She warned Sergeant Baillie the police officer-in-charge would have to be in court to answer questions if it was not ready to proceed.
She said perhaps a different doctor could do the report if the current one was not "up to scratch".
Anderson is accused of being behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Tiguan while five times the legal blood alcohol limit when she crashed into a Ford Focus in East Tamworth on the afternoon of April 1. Police said the 56-year-old Ford driver was hospitalised and underwent surgery for a fractured arm.
Anderson is facing charges of high range drink driving; aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm (GBH); and dangerous driving occasioning GBH.
She has not been required to enter pleas.
