It's just shy of two weeks since Andrew Johns was elected president of the Gunnedah District Cricket Association but he's already hard at work.

Johns - who has taken over the role from Brad Gander - has been in talks with clubs and he said he's received some good feedback.
Ideas will be discussed at upcoming general meetings - one of them being the return of two-day cricket.
"Traditionally we have played two-day cricket but we've moved away from that the last couple of years," he said.
"It is difficult to get people to commit to that and it is also difficult when you've got a lot of shift workers like you do here but I had a meeting with NSW cricket and they gave me a few ideas on how you can get around that in terms of having substitutions for teams."
Johns said the return of two-day cricket would benefit the juniors coming through the ranks but said shorter format cricket would be played as well.
"Even if it's just one round, three or four games, it would enable some of those kids to be exposed to that [two dayers]," Johns said.
"I get that some people don't enjoy two-day cricket but it's a matter of trying to strike a balance so that we can give everyone a crack at as many different types of cricket as we can."
There was a number of reasons Johns put his hand up to go on the committee.
For one, he wanted to help shoulder some of the burden.
"I really felt for the former president Brad Gander - who did a fantastic job but the poor bugger got lumped with the junior president's role and the senior president's role last year," Johns said.
He also wants to see the game he loves survive.
"Just about every regional area struggles when it comes to cricket for various reasons but it's important to us," he said.
"I've been playing it my whole life and I want my boys to continue to play it so I want make sure the game's healthy."
Johns said a focus for the upcoming season will be bringing through and retaining second grade players.
The Mornington player knows it's a job that is easier said than done. He said he'd be listening to the players thoughts and making it as attractive as possible.
"Every club struggled from time to time last season," Johns said of second grade.
"At our AGM, I had a chat with one of the other clubs - and they're usually one of the more successful clubs - and they said their second grade situation may be worse this year.
"It is really hard with a lot of shift workers and people move away from sports for all sorts of different reasons but that's going to be a focus - to make sure that we keep those second grade guys coming through.
"And the kids coming through to second grade so they can turn into first grade players as well."
