It had opened in 1865, serving Tamworth for just over 20 years before its replacement.
Adjacent and further up the hill was the Telegraph Master's residence.
After several part-time Postmasters in Tamworth in various locations, George Denshire was appointed as our first fulltime Postmaster in 1862, continuing in the position until 1867.
