A crowd of people marched through the streets of Moree on Wednesday, after Gordon Copeland, 22, was last seen disappearing into the Gwydir River in the early hours of July 10.

His family organised the protest to demand "justice", and slammed police.

"The family and community have been left to find Gordon themselves," organisers of the march said.

"The police ain't telling us the whole story of what happened that night and we want the truth."

Protesters were vocal as they rallied from Jellicoe Park towards the local police station.

Police allege a Toyota Corolla which was spotted speeding along the Newell Highway was found bogged near the Yarraman bridge, in the early hours of July 10.

Mr Copeland fled and entered the river when officers tried to speak with him, according to police.

A coordinated search made up of police, divers, trail bike riders and police rescue, as well as firefighters, the SES and the Marine Area Command, failed to find Mr Copeland and was abandoned on July 15.

Police said in a statement to the Leader that New England officers are still searching for the young father, with the help of the dog squad, boats and drones, and are appealing for information.

Mr Copeland is described as being slim and was last seen wearing a grey hoodie and black trackpants.

A critical incident investigation was launched and remains ongoing.
