Entering its 48^th year, the festival is set to go ahead, although will be more 'low key' than previous editions as it focuses on community attendance as opposed to drawing in runners from other regions.

There will be a number of different options available this year with a half marathon, 10km, 5km on offer, while for those who want to take it really seriously, there is now a 'triple threat' choice than incorporates all three.

But for the people who want to take it lightly, there is also a 4km community walk on offer.

Triathlon Club secretary, Greg Poetschka, has been involved in the event for more than 15 years, and said there has been a noticeable difference in who has shown interest since he began.

"The biggest event normally is the fun five because there's a lot of families and stuff that do that sort of run," he said.

He said organisers are also looking at organising a 'my first fun run' circuit which would be a short distance that young kids could do with their family as an introduction to running events.

The most important aspect of the festival, however, is where the proceeds go, with previous programs raising thousands for local charities and organisations.

"Over the last seven or eight years we've donated roughly $50,000 to charities across the Tamworth community area," he said.

"Our major charity for the last couple of years has been Bullimbal School, but prior to that' we've supported Ronald McDonald House, the diabetes association, Cancer Council ... and a couple of the local Lions clubs.

Registration is now open for the half marathon, 10km, 5km and triple threat runs, with late entries being able to pick their bib up at Tamworth Shopping World between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, July 31.

However, those who want to take part in the community walk can register and pay on the day.
