Event Coordinator Anna Ellis told the Leader the Tamworth Gets Its Glow On event slated for this Sunday won't put the community at risk

"We're not a Jimmy Barnes concert, we're not getting people from Sydney. We're a kids event. We're not a Jimmy Barnes concert that we're going to get people come up, risk the fine, risk probably not going to be able to get a hotel room," she said.

"I'm fairly confident that we're not going to get anyone outside the Tamworth, Gunnedah region.

"We wouldn't be there if we didn't trust in the health advice that's given. And we wouldn't be coming there if we thought it was a risk. Because we are at the end of the day, yes we are a business, but we've all still got families. We all have to take into consideration our risk by coming."

Glow Up Events, which organises the kids-centric lights and magic show events, has been travelling across the region over the last few weeks.

They recently held events in Inverell and Armidale.

It's unclear how big or small the show will actually be.

Ms Ellis said presales for the Tamworth event were going well, but it wasn't clear how many people would actually show up.

"In Armidale, we sold close to 1500 tickets," she said.

"The funny thing was though, whenever COVID happens, people don't come out. The funny thing was we actually only had 200 people throughout the whole event and that includes people who bought tickets. We actually ended up selling a lot at the gate. It was bloody freezing, but I think it had a lot more to do with COVID than anything, especially when you see people who have bought tickets who don't actually come out."

Tamworth Gets Its Glow On is set to be held between 4.30pm and 8pm at Jack Woolaston Oval, on Sunday.

It's set to feature several giant LED animal installations, a number of magic shows, a fashion parade and kids' jumping castles, among other attractions.

Both children and adults are encouraged to attend in glow-up costumes.

Everyone has to wear a mask to attend the event.

Ms Ellis estimated the event will feature about five food vendors and eight retail stores.
