Rard Malcolm Thomas remains behind bars, charged with murdering a 53-year-old man in Coonabarabran on May 12.
He fronted Tweed Heads Local Court on Wednesday, after investigations by detectives and the homicide squad led to his arrest earlier this week.

Police allege the older man was found with serious head injuries at a house on Nandi Street, Coonabarabran, on May 12. He later died in a Sydney hospital.
Police claim they were told there had been a gathering at the house before the 53-year-old man was found injured.
Detectives investigating the death homed in on Thomas and a warrant was put out for his arrest.
Queensland police arrested the man at a house in Carseldine, in Queensland, early on Monday morning.
He fronted Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday and an extradition application was granted, and Thomas was escorted across the border into NSW by police.
Bail was formally refused.
