It may not seem like a big deal at the time, but more than enough people do it, for it to hurt the environment, which is why a new program - that Tamworth cafes are jumping on board with - is hoping to solve the issue.

Green Caffeen have come up with a program where coffee lovers can request their brew in a Green Caffeen reusable cup, then scan a code at that cafe to register they have checked the cup out.

Whenever that customer goes back to that cafe, or any others in the region that are part of the program, they can select a swap-and-go option on the app, hand in the cup to be washed, and get another one.

Luckily, for those of us who are forgetful, more than one cup can be checked out at any one time.

Tamworth Regional Council has been working alongside the Green Caffeen movement in June and July, to see which local cafes are interested.

Camp Grounds Coffee Shop on Dowe Street has jumped at the opportunity, and manager Matt Bettesworth said it could do really well in Tamworth.

"I believe it does have a good amount of support, there is a good cafe culture here in Tamworth between ourselves and a few other venues," he said.

"And they do have a similar interest and wanted to be more environmentally friendly as well, so I think there is the demand here for it.

"And as shown in other regional areas, looking into the company itself, it has worked so I can't see why it wouldn't."

Council will soon receive feedback regarding how many expressions of interest there are, and then make a decision on whether to launch an official partnership with Green Caffeen or not.
