Tamworth's next generation of young hockey stars acquitted themselves well at the under-13s boys state championships in Parkes on the weekend with both Frogs sides reaching their respective semi-finals.

"The boys had a great weekend," Tamworth junior boys rep convenor Mark Hooper said.
Hooper also coached the As side.
Playing in Division 2, they finished top of their pool after notching wins over Wagga Combined (4-nil), Manning Valley (3-nil) and Newcastle (2) (2-nil).

They then beat Orange 2-nil in their quarter-final to set-up a semi-final against Port Macquarie Hastings. The coastal side proved too strong the Frogs, scoring the first goal against them for the tournament on their way to a 5-nil win.
"The boys played some amazing hockey, they really stepped up to it," Hooper said.
Asked what he was most impressed about, he replied their team-work and their camaraderie and heart
The Bs also played some great hockey over the three days and were desperately unlucky not to make the Division 3 final with their semi-final against Canberra (2) finishing in a 1-all draw.
On a countback Canberra went through.
"They did really well, a lot of those boys are only 11," Hooper said.
After drawing 2-all with the hosts first-up, they then beat Southern Highlands (2) 3-nil before falling to Hockey Coffs Coast 1-nil to finish second in their pool.
Taking on Wagga Combined in their quarter-final the Frogs won 3-nil.
New England meanwhile finished third overall in Division 1 with three wins and two losses from their five games.
Both associations did have a presence in the final with Tamworth's Peyton Abra and New England's Liv Clarke awarded the umpiring honours.
