A 38-year-old man was rushed to hospital on Saturday afternoon after an incident at a property near Cassilis, where he fell off a horse which subsequently rolled on top of him.
He is believed to have sustained serious back, shoulder and head injuries during the accident.
A critical care paramedic team and doctor from Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service quickly attended the scene and treated him.
He was then prepared for transport and taken immediately to the John Hunter Hospital.
The man was reported to be in a serious condition after arriving in Newcastle.
