Three teenagers have been charged with a raft of offences including a police chase, drug charges and car theft after incidents across East and West Tamworth this week.

Oxley Detective Inspector Jason Darcy said the Proactive Crime Team had charged three boys aged 13 and 16.

"We believe this is the nucleus of people involved in a recent spate of offending," he said.

"These are significant arrests for stolen motor vehicle and property crime and is significant in the fight against property crime in the Tamworth area.

"Some of the charges against these young persons include breach of bail and we will allege these persons were out in contravention of those conditions."

Police allege a Ford Mustang was stolen from a Levien Avenue home in East Tamworth between 9pm Tuesday and about 3am on Wednesday, before it was spotted by officers speeding in Cossa Street.

Operation Southbreak police gave chase, pursuing the Mustang through several streets where it allegedly hit speeds of 100km per hour in a 50 zone.

The occupants ran from the Mustang when it stopped on Bent Street.

A 16-year-old was arrested in Northview Street and later charged with being carried in a stolen car and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was granted conditional bail in Tamworth Children's Court to reappear in the same court again next week.

Magistrate Julie Soars ordered he live at a Tamworth address with a carer under a 6pm to 6am curfew and report to police everyday.

He's also been ordered not to leave home without his carer; must attend school or TAFE; stay out of trouble; not contact co-accused; and see a doctor and get help for drug and alcohol counselling.

A 13 and 16-year-old were arrested at a home at midday on Wednesday and the younger boy was charged with being carried in the stolen Mustang; while the older boy was charged with stealing and driving the Mustang, and police pursuit.

The younger boy was granted bail, while the 16-year-old was refused bail.

Police said investigations into Operation Southbreak and further property crime reports were continuing.
