The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS) Drover's Run is an annual event that helps raise money for the crucial service, that helps save the lives of many people in the region every year.
It has a strong link to Tamworth given WRHS has a base at the airport, while the drive also finishes in the city.
This year, the four-wheel drive outback adventure will start in Menindee on August 6, and then take 16 days to complete going through South Australia, Northern Territory past Uluru, south-east Queensland and then finish in Tamworth on the 22nd.
WRHS event coordinator New England North West, Jeff Galbraith, said it's amazing to see the support it gets every year.
"This year we've got 39 vehicles at the moment, in 2019 we had 46 vehicles involved and we raised just on a quarter of a million," he said.
"Expectations for this year are lower because fundraising is harder, so if we can raise $150,000 out of this year's event it will be very successful."

He also said the way Tamworth locals get behind it is a real boost, and makes it clear the service's efforts are appreciated.
The cut off to get involved in the event is June 30, and Mr Galbraith said the experience is always special to those who take part in it.
"It's really about taking people out to see places they wouldn't necessarily do by themselves, and it also gives them the confidence to go and try some of these trips at their own leisure in time to come."
