The Gunnedah Dance Eisteddfod was locked in for the Gunnedah Town Hall this weekend, but Melbourne coronavirus restrictions have changed this.

Dance eisteddfod convenor Kiarnii Miller lives in the Victorian city, and under current restrictions this means she's unable to travel further than 25km away from her home.

Adjudicator Amy Holder was also unable to attend as she was in close proximity to Jervis Bay hotspots.

Ms Miller emailed participants last week to break the unfortunate news.

"We have made the difficult decision to postpone our eisteddfod. I apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, however, I trust that you will understand that we have made this decision to protect our competitors and their guests from contracting the coronavirus," the email read.

The eisteddfod will now take place on November 12, 13 and 14, which Gunnedah Eisteddfod Committee president Meryl Hennessy said could be a blessing in disguise.

"I think it's a good move moving it back to November and it could mean there's more entries," she said.

"We did hold a dance eisteddfod in November last year and ... we hope that this November will be just as successful."

All participants are being offered a refund for their entry fee, and a new syllabus has been sent out.
