When Niangala, Nowendoc, Guyra and other mountain-top towns in the region turned into winter wonderlands, Tamworth missed out.
But, the last time heavy snow blew into Tamworth was almost 40 years ago, in 1984, and it's certainly not going to be forgotten anytime soon.

The Leader has put together a gallery of photos from July 1984, as locals enjoyed the pristine white blanket which settled over the city and as far as the eye could see.
In July 1984, the maximum temperature dropped to just 6.4 degees on July 3, which was the day the snow fell.
Reports from the time suggest the rare weather event even saw snow fall as far west as Moree.
