A MAJOR thoroughfare has reopened after a water main leak just in time for after-work traffic, but Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) workers have been unable to find the source.

The roundabout at Scott and Goonoo Goonoo roads has reopened after crews spent more than five hours carrying out emergency repairs to look for the water leak.
While the water main was located and isolated, due to site conditions the leak was unable to be found council spokeswoman said.
"Council will undertake repair works at a later date when conditions improve," she said.
"Council will provide notice to road users and residents prior to works recommencing."

PARTS of the road have been closed due to a water main leak at the Scott Road and Goonoo Goonoo roundabout.
The council has had to close sections of the road and create detours to carry out emergency repairs, Tamworth Regional Council spokeswoman said.
"A water main break has occurred at the Goonoo Goonoo and Scotts Road roundabout," she said.
"In order to fix the break and ensure water supply to residents and businesses in this area the council needs to undertake emergency repairs today."
Scott Road is closed between Goonoo Goonoo Road and Karwin Street.
The left lane of Goonoo Goonoo Road is closed between Lydia Street and the roundabout, and both lanes between Edgeroy and Vera streets are closed.
Traffic control and detours are in place, with heavy vehicles notified to divert around the site as best possible.
Work started at 9:30am and is expected to finish about 2pm.

A BURST water main on a major thoroughfare in South Tamworth has affected traffic in both directions.
Scott Road near Goonoo Goonoo Road has been impacted by water after a main burst shortly before 7am on Monday.
Crews are at the scene from Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) and the water utility to try to repair the damage.
It's unclear at this stage what caused the water main to burst.
Delays can be expected and drivers have been urged to plan their journey accordingly and avoid the area.
Live Traffic NSW has asked heavy vehicle to divert eastbound via Goonoo Goonoo Road, Ebsworth Street, Bridge Street at the Oxley Highway and Marius Street to Armidale Road.
