It's the marketing side of things that has some event organisers stumped, that's where Destination Tamworth steps in to help with its events marketing support program.

All the events and festivals contribute to the region's tourism economy, Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) economic and destination coordinator Kate Baker said.

"It's exciting to see a number of regional events starting up after a year's hiatus, including a lot of annual calendar favourites," she said.

"Our region has so many events on offer; from music, history, arts and culture to the outdoors, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

"Being regional, we are in the fortunate position to be able run these wonderful events in a CovidSafe environment."

The program provides financial and in-kind marketing support to local events and festivals with successful applications.

Applicants have to be able to demonstrate how the event will grow over time; the economic benefit to the region; an increase in overnight visitation and sustainability.

The Great Nundle Dog Race is just one of 15 local events that have already benefited from the support.

Nundle P&C committee member and race organiser Teree Burr said it helped them to reach a wider audience when they wouldn't normally be able to afford it.

"The dog race is a complete fundraising event, but it has costs to run and market the event; probably 45 per cent of the costs to run it are spent on marketing," she said.

"Any money we spend comes out of the pockets of the P&C and the kids, so we try to run a tight ship and if we receive a grant from TRC that increases our profitability and the fundraising efforts.

"The kids are the ones who benefit because there's more money left for them for resources and excursions."

Organisers can have access to media coverage, distribution of promotional material, social media promotion and the creation of promotional content.

There are $100 to $5000 grants available, and applications close June 8 for the 2021 to 2022 program.
