At 38, Ferris is loving his baseball as much as ever with the A grade coaching gig at Cougars giving him an extra level of enjoyment in the game.
In short, retirement is definitely not on the cards anytime soon.
"I wouldn't be talking about that yet," Ferris said of hanging up the glove.
"I still enjoy the game and I'm not considering that for a fair few years."
He added on coaching the side: "I enjoy it and I've got that bit of experience and knowledge to pass on to the guys. It's rewarding."
Cougars are unbeaten after the first three rounds with a team that includes "a lot of the same faces" as last year's team that made the grand final.
Ferris said Josh Daley was the big out from last year's side but that hadn't slowed them down to begin 2021.
"It's been a good start. Two wins and beating Armidale after the grand final loss last year, too," Ferris said.
"We have been slow starters in the past. We'd progress and build momentum later in the season but pre-season was good - we got in early.

He added: "That's probably what I'd attribute it [the good start] to. The pitchers are better prepared and I think everyone has started where we left off last year instead of a lull in the first third of the season."
The Cougars' pitchers will have to be ready for the long haul this weekend as the side has their first double header of the season.
Cougars take on Warriors first before playing the Armidale Outlaws.
Ferris along with Brock and Ben Ridgewell do the bulk of the pitching for Cougars and were ready for the challenge on Saturday.
"You have to plan for double the amount of pitching and the preparation in between games is a bit harder but we have a pretty good pitching rotation which helps a fair bit," Ferris said.
