Patrick's grandfather Rod will cycle from Cameron Corner to Wauchope to raise money for kids with cancer.
"If I can help one or two children battle this horrid disease, that will be fantastic," he said. "I think of Pat every single day." This will be the third Pedal for Pat event.
The last two rides travelled between Manilla and Wauchope, but this one will take the riders into the depths of the desert.
"We have spent quite a bit of time in the outback and it is fantastic, the outback mesmerises me," Rod said.
At 70, he said it could be his last Pedal for Pat.
The riders will navigate through Walgett, Narrabri and Walcha on their mountain bikes at the end of May.
"There has been a tremendous amount of preparation, we have an off-road caravan as our base and support vehicles and ... I think we'll just be grateful to get to bed of a night," he said.
The family is sponsoring Pedal for Pat, all money raised goes directly to Bear Cottage and the Kids Cancer Project.
