At about 7.30pm the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to a rural property in the town after reports a 34-year-old man was suffering severe burns to his hands and torso.
He reportedly was attempting to ignite a fire when the fire flashed over him.

Local ambulance paramedics and emergency services attended the location and commenced treatment of the male before being driven by ambulance to the Tamworth airport.
There, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and critical care medical team rendezvoused with the man before being flown to the Royal North Shore Hospital.
