A MAN has been charged with breaking into a Tamworth home and stealing a car overnight on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old was still in custody on Wednesday, accused of violently lashing out at police after he was arrested in a pursuit in Lloma Park, off MacGregor Street in Coledale.
Police said the white Holden Colorado was stolen from a Denison Street in West Tamworth between 8.30pm and 4.55am on Wednesday.
"The Proactive Crime Team were in that area at the time patrolling as part of Operation Southbreak and sighted the Colorado," Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy said.

"A pursuit was initiated when the vehicle failed to stop.
"It was then dumped in Lloma Park where three persons ran from the location."
Police said the 21-year-old was captured after a short foot pursuit.
"The suspect was highly aggressive and resisted arrest, and in the course of that we will allege he assaulted a senior constable, and was found in possession of the key to that Colorado vehicle," Detective Darcy said.
The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with police pursuit; break-and-enter; stealing a car; assaulting police; resisting arrest; custody of a knife; and breach of bail.
He was refused bail by police, but on Wednesday afternoon appeared in Tamworth Local Court where magistrate Julie Soars ordered he undergo an urgent health assessment.
He remains in custody.
Police confirmed investigations are continuing into the two others seen fleeing the stolen vehicle.
It has been seized as part of the investigation.
